October: Breast Cancer Awareness Month
How much do you know about breast cancer? Each October, we recall the facts of this disease to help educate our community for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Did you know…?
- One in eight women in the US will be diagnosed with breast cancer.
- Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women.
- Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death of women.
- Every year, more than 246,660 women in America are diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 will die from it.
- While breast cancer in men is still rare, about 2,600 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year and approximately 440 will die in 2016.
- A woman is diagnosed with breast cancer about every 2 minutes.
- 1 woman dies from breast cancer about every 13 minutes.
We have nearly 3 million breast cancer survivors alive in the US today.

Thanks to increased awareness of the signs and risk factors for breast cancer and advancements in medicine, there has been a reduction In in female breast cancer incidence among women who are 50 and older. The death rates from breast cancer have also been on the decline since the 1990s, likely in relation to better screening methods, early detection, and constantly improving treatment options.
