Get Your Kids Off to A Great Start This School Year | The Prescription Shop
Can you believe that summer is nearly over? Your healthcare teammates at The Prescription Shop want to help you and your whole family enjoy a happy and healthy transition to the new school year. Consider these tips, below.
Get the whole family vaccinated.
Whether or not your child’s school requires specific vaccinations, you should all get caught up on any due vaccines and immunizations. Now is the perfect time for a flu shot as well!
Prioritize quality sleep.
Everyone needs plenty of rest to perform at their best. As students, parents and teachers, good sleep is imperative. Adults typically need eight hours of sleep nightly, while children and teens need more. A week or two before school begins, start putting the kids to sleep earlier and make sure to set a routine the whole family can live with.
Up your hygiene game.
School is, of course, a notorious breeding ground for germs. The number one defense against all of those recurring bugs is to practice proper hygiene. That means everyone in your family needs to wash their hands after going to the bathroom and before eating. Everyone can carry hand sanitizer for those times when soap and water aren’t available. While you’re teaching proper hygiene, also make sure your kids know not to share food or drinks with other kids in such a way that could expose them to more germs.
Maximize a healthy diet.
Be sure to stock up on healthy staples to make packing healthy lunches easy. Foods like fruits, vegetables, whole-grain bread and lean protein should be the focus of your on-the-go meals. You can prep on the weekend by cutting up produce, and making tuna salad or hard-boiled eggs. Keep lots of containers on hand for leftovers and invest in an insulated lunch bag and thermal containers for more healthy options.
