Enjoy a Healthy Christmas Season | The Prescription Shop

Have you decided there’s no such thing as a healthy Christmas season? Do you feel helpless against holiday weight gain? The Prescription Shop has some ideas to help you change your mind. With the right mindset, you can enjoy the holidays and make healthy decisions at the same time! Consider these tips:

Choose health over the holidays.
Many–if not most–people make the choice to give up on a healthy lifestyle over the Christmas season. That means they decide to skip exercising, eat in excess for a month or more, and then panic when the New Year hits.

This year can be different, with a healthy mindset. Decide to succeed over the holidays, and take control of your days instead of letting the days control you.

Schedule your exercise and meals.
It’s inevitable–the holidays are hectic. Most of us are busy cooking, shopping, wrapping gifts, mailing cards, entertaining or attending parties, traveling, and more.

To set yourself up for success, you’ve got to schedule the basics. Plan your nutrition and workouts in advance so you won’t be caught unprepared.

Make some seasonal goals.
Rather than waiting for the New Year, you can start working for your goals right now. Keep in mind that goal setting is a continuous process we should do throughout the year. Put your goals in writing and update them regularly.

Plan your indulgences.
A successful eating plan is one we adhere to 80% to 90% of the time. The remaining time allows you to better adhere to your healthy program.

On Christmas Day, and any other special occasions, plan to leave space in your eating for your “social meals.” Make the rest of your meals healthy with quality foods. When it’s time for your social meal, be sure to enjoy it without guilt. You don’t need to “pig out,” but you can be content with single servings of your favorite foods.

This Christmas, we hope to inspire our community to make healthy choices. As always, if you have any questions, feel free to stop by and chat with our friendly pharmacists, and visit our website to explore our convenient health services.
